After studying architecture under Sir William Chambers, and contributing to the construction of Somerset House, Hardwick became well-known for his neoclassical style in the early nineteenth-century. Influenced by classical Italian architecture, Hardwick designed and restored several beautiful churches and civic buildings across England, including St Marylebone Parish Church in 1817. King George III appointed Hardwick as Clerk of Works at Hampton Court, and he also worked on Kew Palace and Gardens.
