After studying architecture under Sir William Chambers, and contributing to the construction of Somerset House, Hardwick became well-known for his neoclassical style in the early nineteenth-century. Influenced by classical Italian architecture, Hardwick designed and restored several beautiful churches and civic buildings across England, including St Marylebone Parish Church in 1817. King George III appointed Hardwick as Clerk of Works at Hampton Court, and he also worked on Kew Palace and Gardens.

St Marylebone Parish Church

About St Marylebone Parish Church has been a place of Christian worship for nearly nine centuries. We have invested a great deal into learning about the histories of our four parish churches and the people that have passed through their doors, particularly through our National Lottery Fund 'Changing Lives Project'. Our most recent building is Grade-I listed and was designed by Thomas Hardwick in 1817.
