Originating from a photographic series commissioned to photographer Gleeson Paulino in 2023 in celebration of the centenary of Copacabana Palace, A Belmond Hotel (often fondly referred to in Brazil as "the Copa"), the exhibition is also a celebration of one of Brazil's most loved and infectious cultural expressions: Rio de Janeiro carnival.

Moreover, in the words of curator Rodrigo Villela, "this exhibition is not just a tribute to the popular festival that pulsates in the very heart of Brazil. It is an invitation to collective celebration, capturing the essence of fleeting moments. Gleeson's lens explores the full spectrum of the carnival experience, from collective ecstasy to the serenity of a solitary reveler on the beach at dawn".

Born in 1988 in Eldorado, Mato Grosso do Sul, Gleeson Paulino's artistic debut series BATISMO has been presented in São Paulo, London and Paris, and received awards in Italy (Cortona on the Move Award), Slovenia (Kranj Photo Festival), the Netherlands (LensCulture 2022, the critics' choice), and France (two golden medals, Salon des Beaux Arts de Paris 2022). Also an established commercial photographer, Paulino was appointed by I-D Vice magazine in 2021 as one of the new leading names in photography.
