Home to the V&A, Science and Natural History museums, the Imperial College, the Royal Colleges of Art, Organists, Music and the Institute Of Navigation, Albertopolis in South Kensington is London’s original knowledge quarter. Made possible through the profits of The Great Exhibition of 1851 this epic city of learning was the brainchild of Prince Albert - Queen Victoria’s Consort - and over 30 years 87 acres of sloping West London fields were spectacularly brought to life in the pursuit and promotion of science, art and industry. Charting high Victorian hopes, this walking tour explores the making of Albertopolis through its greatest architecture and biggest ideas.
