All eyes have been on this borough recently as they have been delivering some of the most exciting new buildings in London. To celebrate this, we have borrowed the classic Routemaster bus owned by Lord Peter Hendy so that residential and industry enthusiasts can get a chance to see as many projects as possible in one evening. Designed by some of the best architects, the different projects are located at some distance from one another and will need some proper transport to catch a glimpse of the huge range of responses to different sites and local needs. The trip will end at a pub for networking drinks.

The guided tour will include on-board commentary from Be First representatives and they will be joined by some of the designers responsible for specialist insight into their briefs and design resolutions. Attendees can expect to see projects such as the

Stirling Prize-nominated A House For Artists by Apparata, 200 Becontree Avenue by Archio, Gascoigne Estate by White Arkitekter and Pitman Tozer and the revolutionary stacked industrial project by Haworth Tompkins.

Be First is a pioneering urban regeneration company wholly owned by Barking and Dagenham Council, but operating independently. Their mission is to accelerate growth and capitalise on the borough’s position as London’s hottest investment and development opportunity. They will help deliver 50,000 new homes and 20,000 jobs in the next 20 years.

Confirmed guides: Astrid Smitham (Apparata); Helen Reid (Pitman Tozer); Hugo Braddick (Haworth Tompkins); Jennie Coombs (Be First); Lukas Thiel (White Arkitekter); Mellis Haward (Archio); and Sarah Beth Riley (Be First).

*A House for Artists is a 5minute walk from Barking Station

The London Society

About The Society is for all those who love London. It was founded in 1912 by a group of influential Londoners concerned about the lack of planning for the future of the capital. Early members included architects, planners and engineers alongside politicians and artists. They came from a range of backgrounds and many would go on to shape Britain during the century that followed. The Society's motto is - Valuing the past; looking to the future!
