Lots of waterside walking including the Thames Path, the River Brent and the Grand Union Canal with tales of the riverside and canal life.
This walk exudes the history of the last 600 years. Monasteries and their dissolution to science and industrialisation all features in this walk along the waterways and through the parks of West London.
The walk starts by following the Thames Path from Richmond. We'll cross the impressive Richmond Lock, the furthest downstream of the Thames locks, and follow the river to the ancient settlement of Isleworth. We leave the river here and walk through the grounds of Syon Park, the London home of the Dukes of Northumberland. At Brentford we join the River Brent and Grand Union Canal on our way to Osterley Lock, the end of this section of the walk.
We meet at Richmond Station for the half-mile walk to the river. The walk finishes at Osterley Lock, a short walk from Boston Manor Underground Station.
The walk will take about three hours. We will mostly be walking on paved, tarmac or bonded gravel paths. Distance: 4+ miles plus half a mile from Richmond Station to the start of the walk and a short walk to Boston Manor Station at the end.
