In the words of curator Renata Mindlin, "Ana Elisa Murta's commitment to the painterly process is absolute. Her abstract compositions have an elaborate fabrication, of countless layers and textures – a reflection of the depth of her investigation around colour".

From an early interest in visual arts, in which casually found materials would help her convey intense emotions and thoughts, over the years Ana Elisa Murta has developed a strong command of chromatic combinations and dynamics. More recently, the artist initiated a trailblazing research on natural pigments found in her native region in Brazil's heartland of Minas Gerais. In that process, the ores that the artist herself collects to fabricate her own paints are both a way for her to profoundly connect with her ancestry, and an invitation for the viewers to embark in a gentle, organic contemplation of the world.

To bring an extra dimension to that dive into colour, the exhibition features musical compositions by Grammy-nominee Marcus Viana, evoking Murta's own sentimental trajectory. Additionally, workshops conducted by the artist will further reveal her creative process, and invite our London audiences to have direct contact with the chromatic vibrancy of Brazilian minerals.
