Difficult Sites Walking Tour with Anthony Palmer

Taking inspiration from the current exhibition at RIBA - Difficult Sites: Architecture Against the Odds – join photographer Anthony Palmer on a walking tour to discover some exhibition highlights in more detail.

We'll explore tricky terrain, awkward urban plots and challenging remodels in London as we visit Westminster Abbey Weston Tower by Ptolemy Dean, the National Gallery extension by ABK, and LSE Swee Saw Hock Centre by O'Donnell & Tuomey. Discover how architects overcame great challenges and produced some of their finest work when designing for a difficult site.

Anthony Palmer
Anthony Palmer is a photography tutor working with adult education and community groups and an educator leading architecture tours and photo walks exploring London. Interested in urbanism, he completed the MA in Photography and Urban Cultures at Goldsmiths, University of London in 2013. His research interests continue to include the role of the image in architecture, urban regeneration and housing. As a photographer, Anthony is a contributor to the RIBA online collections database, RIBApix.

From the 1900s to today, Difficult Sites delves into over twenty complex, unusual, and dynamic builds across the UK. Including work from history’s most renowned architects Neave Brown, Grimshaw Architects, and Lord Norman Foster, as well as contemporary practices of Tonkin Liu, KnoxBhavan, and Carmody Groarke the exhibition highlights the pioneering spirit at the heart of great architecture.
