2022 marks the tenth anniversary of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games and the development of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and regeneration of Stratford. The Park has transformed into one of the largest urban parks in Europe and continues to undergo further transformation. The development of local neighbourhoods has brought about increasing opportunities to upskill, provide housing and build a new educational and cultural quarter in London.
Reaching the ten-year milestone offers up an opportunity to look ahead at the next ten years and reflect on the original masterplan and legacy and what it sought to achieve. How can we challenge the future of its legacy and what are the key goals the industry would like to achieve in the next decade?
This On Location brings together leading industry voices, local authorities, developers and major stakeholders involved since the original masterplan to address the economic growth, plans and policies that will be developed in the next ten years.
In light of planning powers reverting back to local boroughs in 2024, issues surrounding public realm, accessibility and management will become paramount. Building on the area’s rich industrial heritage, the next ten years will see the Park and Stratford transform into a co-location of world-renowned education and cultural institutions alongside businesses and over 33,000 new homes, establishing a thriving new creative, innovation hub and metropolitan centre.
