Architect Oliver Tyler (WilkinsonEyre) and engineer Jeremy Edwards (Arup) have led the respective architectural and engineering teams from inception through to the current construction of the building.
The 51 storey building for Mitsubishi Estate, with Development Manager Stanhope, is located in the heart of the City of London at the junction of Bishopsgate and Leadenhall. The building provides more than 550,000ft² of new commercial office space with ground floor retail. Conceived as a stack of ‘blocks’ in response to the townscape and view constraints the building appears quite distinct from other ‘tall’ buildings in the eastern cluster.
With sustainability being a key driver of the design from the outset the building is the first speculatively developed tower in the UK to target an EPC A energy rating and BREEAM Outstanding rating. The design is founded on the UN Sustainable Development goals and follows the guidance of the RIBA 2030 Challenge. The design has been developed to achieve both low embodied carbon targets and be low-carbon in operation.
The building is currently under construction and due for completion in Q4 2022.
