The 2024 Banister Fletcher Lecture at RIBA, 66 Portland Place, invites Indy Johar to discuss London in the 21st century, exploring how we will have to tackle the scale of the carbon challenge and how that impacts new modes of building.
Indy Johar will examine the future of the capital and the huge changes it is going to have to deal with. He believes that we all need to embrace the harsh realities of the structural transformations the city will undergo. London in the 21st century will have to tackle the scale of the carbon challenge and what that means for new models of building. How are we going to deal with the necessary increases in biodiversity, energy transitions, material scarcity and new forms of human development?
All of this is going to require a fundamental shift in how we approach problems, by harnessing radical new technologies and accepting that our relationship with the world around us is going to shift in a way that hasn’t happened for 400-500 years.
