Join the London Festival of Architecture on an architectural walking tour of the City of London with Blue Badge Guide, Caroline Dale.

The walk will start at the Monument to the Great Fire of London (Fish St Hill, London EC3R 8AH) and will take you on a fascinating tour of the City of London. You'll discover the key role of London Bridge and the River Thames across the 2000 year trading history of the City. Walk past The Monument to the Great Fire of London, a memorial to how several centuries later London survived a massive fire and in more recent times a devastating World War.

Move onto the Lombard Street area featuring the City's Medieval roots in finance. Take in the history of Leadenhall Market tracing back to the Roman period (and Harry Potter!) in the shadow of Richard Rogers' Lloyds of London building that marked the need for significant post Big Bang City rejuvenation.

Post Millennium, Leadenhall has seen how an impressive cluster of new generation City offices has transformed a vast swathe of the working environment with its incorporation of entire new public realms tucked inside reconfigured ancient streets.

While the Tower recalls the Norman invasion the nearby remaining street grid pattern recalls how the City evolved away from its residential origins to accommodate its influential economic significance. Numerous ancient churches and guildhalls survive as visual contrasts and reminders that the new City architecture continues to adapt and serve its community in increasingly creative ways.

The walking tours will take place on two different days.

Thursday, 15 September at 5.30pm
Sunday, 25 September at 11am
